Ninth Meeting of the Baltic Division of UNGEGN
The Ninth Meeting of the Baltic Division of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names took place in Yurmala, Latvia, on 11-13 October 2005. Beside the three Baltic member states of the Division, it was attended by a representative of Russia in the status of a permanent observer and, for the first time, by the representatives of Byelarus, Poland and Ukraine.
The meeting discussed various legal and linguistic issues related to the collection, standardisation, spelling and usage of geographical names.
Aistė Pangonytė, chief specialist of the State Commission of the Lithuanian Language, presented the Commission’s Recommendation for the Formation and Spelling of Street Names, 2004.
